YES! You Can Have Better Balance!!
This is The Best Place for Adults to Learn How to Regain Balance, Strength, and Mobility So That They Can Enjoy A Safe and Active Life at Home and in the Community
If you’ve got a problem with your balance and have been falling, or are afraid of falling – it’s very tempting to think that it’s “just because of age.” After all, this may be what a friend or doctor has told you.
Maybe you saw the generation ahead of you having the same balance issues, and locked it into your brain that “everyone” your age must suffer from losing independence due to balance problems and falls in the elderly.

There’s no obvious reason why all this has happened – but it does seem to be getting worse with age. Is that what you are feeling? What causes loss of balance?

If that’s happening to you, you’re not alone – and we hear this type of thing all the time from our patients. In fact, this is a common problem, and we specialize in working with people every day all over your area to help people to get their independence back from unsteadiness, falls, and fear of falling. Preventing falls in the elderly has become a staple of our program.

And when it comes to problems with poor balance and falls, everybody we see wants to know:

“Why is This Happening to Me?”
“Why Did this Happen? I Never Used To Have This Problem! Is It My Age?”
Many people just like you hope that balance problems will disappear without doing anything like a magician’s assistant in a large black box. Six months later, not only is your balance problem still around…it’s worse! Oh..and it's NEVER just because you are an older adult.

If you want to find out quickly if you have a high fall risk and are in danger of an injury, answer these 10 YES or NO questions here. "Fall Risk Questionnaire"

Does That Sound Like You?

Another scenario we see all the time all over Carbon, Luzerne, and Schuylkill County is when people go to the Doctor, and the Doctor tells them that it’s just because of their "age”. And to "Just be careful, don’t fall."

Listen, we are not saying that your doctor is doing anything wrong. The struggle of a primary care physician is much more with the way healthcare works in America...action is only taken when something has happened...prevention as a way to treat patients is not the norm.

How can being more careful solve the problem? Of course you are being careful. In fact, being careful has made you more fearful and less active, which makes your balance even worse! You need real intervention and the only thing that works for balance improvement and fall prevention in older adults is specialized exercise, not wishful thinking advice!

In the best of cases, people spot the early signs, are able to find a specialist that can identify the cause of their balance problem and falling, and put them on the path toward not having to worry about falling for a long time, if ever.

In the worst of cases, people put their balance problem off for weeks, months and years. They may FINALLY seek a real solution to the problem when they end up in the hospital from a fall, maybe breaking a hip or ending up with a head injury.
Too many people go from the hospital to a nursing home, and that is something NOBODY wants. These are the sad cases that are all too common. We see this all the time also.
Given the epidemic of falls in the United States, putting off the problem is madness. More than 25% of adults aged 65 or older fall each year, many incurring major injury.
So much can be done to prevent losing independence with life, prevent going to the hospital and ending up in a nursing home. There is one way to prevent all of that and it can start here.

Has This Happened To You?

Why does unsteadiness come along? It's easy to get confused because you've been told so many different things by different people. There are lots of people out there who are happy to give you advice, but not all of the things you hear are reliable.

Your balance problems are likely coming from something that is benign and doesn’t require imaging testing that costs thousands of dollars. But, that’s what the medical community often thinks is indicated. So you wait for the testing and more time passes before a real solution is available.

The balance system is very complex and the reasons for instability can be very confusing. Because of that, many people end up accepting that poor balance is just part of being lucky enough to live a long life. It’s not a NATURAL PART of AGING.

Does any of this sound too familiar?

If You’re Currently Living With A Fear of Falling, Here Are 7 Reasons (Not Age) Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

1. You thought it would go away on its own - but it didn’t.

2. You went to the Doctor who told you to reduce your activity, basically rest and be careful, and take medications - but the pills don’t improve the cause of your balance problems and rest makes you weak.

3. A friend, or family told you that they’ve gotten more unsteady as they got older, so it seems as if it's just a normal part of aging and you just accepted it.

4. You tried other Healthcare Professionals, or a Physical Therapist in the past, unsuccessfully.

5. You tried YouTube exercises but they either did nothing, or made you more nervous that gravity will win the battle causing you to fall during the exercises.

6. You thought it would be a good idea to reduce your activity because if you are sitting, you can’t fall, but all that did was make your muscles weaker.

7. You may actually have a problem within your balance system, your vision, or your sensation but don't realize that you can actually do something about it even with these problems.

If any of these things have happened to you, we would love to help you by inviting you to schedule a Call Consultation with one of our physical therapists. The fact that you tried any, (or all) of these things is actually a good thing because when you know what doesn't work, you are closer to the thing that does help.

“What Can I Do To Get Me Back To Just Getting Out In The Community & Enjoy Life Again Without Having To Worry About Falling?"

Well, here's 4 things you can do:
✅ First, deciding to get help is a great choice. So many people put off getting help right away. “A stitch in time saves nine.” Right? One fall is the strongest predictor of future falls.

✅ Avoid Extended Rest. Safely perform your daily activities with upper body support if needed. At a minimum, safely strengthen your legs. Stand up and sit down as many times as you can in a row. Do this several times per day from a chair with arms so you can be safe.

✅ Get real, balance Physical Therapy - Specialized Physical Therapy is proven to help people with balance problems. In fact, it’s a very common problem that we treat with our In-Home Physical Therapy Program at Achieva Rehabilitation. If your balance threatens your mobility and independence or gets in the way of spending quality time with family and friends – an expert driven fall prevention program with a PT will help you.

✅ Next, do the RIGHT exercises - one of the best things to help you improve your balance is to do the right series of exercises - specifically created for you by our expert Physical Therapist to help your body learn to win the war against gravity - and make sure you get back to doing the things you love to do!

“Having experience with therapy in a traditional gym, I greatly prefer the Achieva Rehab in-home model because of the One-on-One relationship. With Achieva, I get undivided attention as well as a much better understanding of my home exercise program, because it was taught to me exactly where I need to perform it.”
--Margaret
“A wonderful program and after searching for answers to my health problems, Achieva Rehabilitation is a dream come true. The staff is highly professional and their “one on one” basis in home therapy is definitely rewarding. I see promising results in my future and hope to continue with therapy to reach my goals.”
--John
“I highly recommend Achieva Rehab for at-home physical therapy! Since I don't drive, it was very convenient that my Physical therapist came right to my house. I needed to be able to navigate around my home after a recent injury that had me hospitalized for six days, and after only six weeks of therapy I am able to walk without a cane or walker. I am also able to do my steps at home; I live in an older home with a bathroom on the second floor, so it was very important to be able to do my steps without assistance. Achieva's care and attention were outstanding and I feel like they were the best possible choice for me”
